As a business or organization’s leader, you know that history is important. After all, history is just the record of who we are, where we’ve been, and what motivated us to get where we are.
We are hoping that
you and your business or organization will join us in this historic effort to
capture a broad and inclusive snapshot of Neenah in 2012. How do you want to be remembered? What is it about your business or organization that sets you apart from others?
What kind of history do you have? Where do you want your organization to be in
30 years, or even further down the road?
Please join us as we create something for all future
citizens of Neenah to enjoy and learn from. We need your input, because you are
what makes us a strong and vibrant community. Add to our collection and
Neenah’s future citizens will know more about how we lived and worked here in
2012.
It is our desire to make this project as inclusive and
engaging as possible, and to that end we invite you to contribute an item for
the capsule which identifies your organization or business. Even a written summary is acceptable, but please
have fun with this and be as creative as possible.
Our goal is to create a capsule to be opened in a generation
(30 years) and bridged between the citizens of today and those of 2042 and
beyond. Because of its wide scope, the
project will also be an opportunity to bridge generations today. Citizens of all ages and walks of life are encouraged
to participate in a variety of different outlets which will promote the sharing
of our current values as well as our individual and collective hopes for the
future. The unique design of the
“Bridging Generations” time capsule will allow for it to be re-cycled and used
for many years beyond 2042, a time portal for generations to come!
By creating an interesting collection and engaging the
community in this exercise, we hope to foster a stronger sense of community
belonging and understanding. Questions to think about when considering an item
to represent your organization might include: What makes us unique? What are we
most proud of? What do we value? What do we want to communicate to the future
citizens of Neenah? Together we will discover what it is that distinguishes us
as a community and what it is we hope to become.
Because of capsule size constraints we ask that your item be
small but meaningful. Please give a brief description of what you are submitting
and why you chose to submit it. No liquids, hazardous or perishable items can
be included. Furthermore, due to obsolescence and decay, it is not recommended
that machine-readable media (computer discs, etc.) be included. Again, even a
written overview of your organization is acceptable, but please attach the
included submission waiver with your item or overview. Click here for a copy of the waiver.
Over the course of the next months we will feature
submissions on this blog for your review and inspiration. We will also feature
selected submissions at Communityfest this summer. Submissions can be dropped off at the Neenah Parks and Recreation Department office in City Hall or mailed to them via:
Attn: Bridging Generations Time Capsule
Neenah Parks and Recreation Department
211 Walnut Street
Neenah WI. 54956.
The deadline for submission for an item to be included is July 31, 2012. The dedication of the capsule will be on September 8, 2012, at a site in Neenah which will be revealed in the coming weeks. Please join us in this project and together we will be “Bridging Generations.”
